Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt out for the season

Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt will miss the rest of the 2015 season with a right Achilles injury, the school announced Saturday.

Hunt was hurt Friday night against Rhode Island in Syracuse's 47-0 blowout victory.

It's the second-season ending injury for Hunt in the past two seasons. He fractured his left fibula against Louisville on October 4 and missed the rest of the 2014 season. A senior in 2015, Hunt would have a good case for a sixth-year of eligibility via a medical redshirt if he chose to pursue that option.

Hunt was injured in the first quarter Friday and replaced by true freshman Eric Dungey, who was 10-17 passing for 114 yards and two touchdowns in Hunt's absence. Hunt was 0-2 passing with an interception in his limited playing time. It was, coincidentally, also the second-straight season he had to leave the opener early. He didn't see the finish of the Orange's game against Villanova in 2014 after he was ejected.

Dungey was a three-star recruit in the class of 2015 according to Rivals and the No. 29 dual-threat quarterback in the country.

Hunt completed 83-of-145 passes for 983 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions in 2014 before the leg injury. In 2013, he was 167-273 for 1,638 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
